Membership Information

In order to participate in any Hunting, Fishing, Snowmobiling, ATVing, Target Shooting activities, or the use of the Archery Ranges on CFB Borden, you must be a Member of the Rod & Gun Club.

Membership in the Club is maintained to ensure that military personnel and their dependents are able to fully participate in the operation and activities of the Club.

There are three main categories of membership;

 1.  Regular Members:

The following persons are eligible for regular membership;

(a)   members of the Regular Force and their dependants.

(b)   foreign military personnel on duty with the Canadian Forces and their dependants.

(c)   members of the Reserve Force while on Class A or Class B Reserve Service and their dependants.

2.  Ordinary Members;

Subject to the approval of the Executive Committee, the following personnel may apply to become ordinary members for one year, with no guarantee of renewal for further one-year terms (renewal will be based on the level of involvement in Club);

(a)        public servants and their dependants, including casual employees and civilian employees under full time contract who are employed at CFB Borden.

(b)       civilians living in quarters on the base and their dependants.

(c)      former members of the CF or widows of former members in receipt of an annuity under CFSA, DSPCS or person under the Pension Act or War Veterans Allowance Act, and their dependants.

(d)      former civilian employees of DND in receipt of a pension on behalf of their DND services, and their dependants.

(e)      members of the RCMP, retired or active and their dependants.

(f)      members of the Canadian Corps of Commissioners employed on base and their dependants.

(g)      Personnel Support Program (PSP) employees employed on base and their dependants.

(h)      former PSP employees in receipt of a pension on behalf of their Non Public Funds (NPF) service and their dependants.

(i)      former members of the CF who served on active service in the naval, army or air forces raised in Canada during time of war.

 3.  Associate Members:

Subject to the approval of the Committee at an Executive meeting, any person and their dependants, not specified in above paragraphs may be invited to become an associate member.  Associate membership shall be for one year, with no guarantee of renewal for further one year terms.

As a matter of information, our Associate membership limit is 30% and this is taken in relation to our overall Regular/Ordinary membership.  As such, we are permitted to only accept a limited number of Associate Members based on these numbers.

Not surprisingly, the BBR&G has become very popular over the past years and we’ve seen a dramatic increase in the number of Associate applications.  Given that our Constitution bounds us to a predetermined limit (ie. 30%) as well as a requirement to ensure the “membership of the Club must be maintained to ensure that military personnel and their dependants are able to fully participate in the operation and activities of the Club,” it is unfortunate that all Associate applications cannot be accepted.  As such, the Executive Committee has the very difficult task of evaluating/reviewing all applications and determining which Associate applicants can be accepted.  Consequently, it is important for all Associate members to understand that future selection criteria will place substantial emphasis on considerations such as seniority in the clubparticipation/ visibility in club activities, and/or how a particular applicant represents the club’s mandate/motto/ethos.  Also important to note is that acceptance as an Associate member in one year cannot guarantee acceptance in any future year(s).

While the BBR&G has been increasing in popularity, the importance of remaining compliant with Canadian Forces regulations as well as our own Constitution cannot be overstated.  Unfortunately we do not have the ability to accept all Associate applications and will only be able to vote in Associate members as our Regular/Ordinary membership increases.
